Revolutionizing Healthcare Spaces: Iguchi Funabori by Takuji Kamio

Award-Winning Design Transforms Renal Urology Clinic into an Artistic Sanctuary

Renowned designer Takuji Kamio has revolutionized the concept of healthcare spaces with his innovative design of the Iguchi Funabori clinic. This unique project, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018, combines art and functionality to create a relaxing and extraordinary experience for patients.

Takuji Kamio was inspired to create a space that would alleviate the nervousness often associated with medical clinics. To achieve this, he combined dimensional planes into one space using various geometric expressions. The result is a luxurious and artistic environment that provides a sense of calm and relaxation for patients.

The unique properties of the design lie in its geometric pattern tiling and dimensional lighting. Kamio applied several geometric patterns to the floor, walls, and ceiling, carefully combining these aspects with an emphasizing lighting system. The use of two types of ceramic tiles on each wall, decorated in different directions, adds a sense of movement to the space.

The design was realized using a variety of materials, including ceramic tiles, vinyl tiles, stainless steel, LED line lighting, steel wires, and vinyl sticker wall finish. The project, which covers an area of 115 sqm, features geometric pattern tile walls of varying sizes and an indirect line light length of 50 meters.

The design is not only visually appealing but also functional. The glass wall entrance provides a clean and beautiful image, allowing visitors to easily understand the layout of the clinic. The geometric pattern floor naturally leads visitors to the sofa area, creating an experience akin to visiting an art museum.

The project, which started in September 2017 and was completed in February 2018, was located in Funabori, Tokyo, Japan. The design team, which also included Tomomi Ban, faced the challenge of connecting the geometric patterns across the floor, wall, and ceiling. They meticulously planned to maintain the sequence and continuities of the lining art designs, using indirect line lightings to emphasize the artworks more efficiently.

In conclusion, the Iguchi Funabori clinic, with its innovative design, has transformed the concept of healthcare spaces. By combining art and functionality, Takuji Kamio has created a space that not only serves its purpose but also provides a relaxing and extraordinary experience for patients. This project serves as a testament to the power of design in enhancing the quality of life.
